W/E 8th November

What a great first week back we have had – finishing with a superb bonfire and firework display.

Most of the year 6’s were kept busy on Friday morning assisting Mr Burford with building the bonfire and readying the field for Friday evening and luckily there were all well equipped to deal with the task.

In Literacy this week we have been continuing with biographies and have made notes about the life of Alexander the Great, which links in with our Ancient Greece topic, and started writing his biography. The children are enjoying this and, when completed, I will post some on the blog. Many thanks to all the parents, grandparents and siblings who contributed towards our half term homework. The biographies make great reading.

Art was definitely one of the highlights of the week. With the help of Mrs Smith and Mrs Frost, we created some super Greek masks with clay. These are in the process of drying out before being fired and painted. They look fabulous and the children tried extremely hard to match their designs.

In Maths we have been looking at data and the children have interpreted many charts and graphs as well as creating their own graphs. We began using success criteria for the children as an aide memoir for their work.

Next week we will begin looking at weight and capacity and it would be great if children can be involved in cooking at home so that they can practice reading scales.
